Li Yizhong, the boss of Ministry of Industry and information Technology of China, said that not all the computers in China must be installed the Green Dam internet filtering system on a news conference on Thursday. But the computers in public places such as school, net bar are not the exceptions. Maybe this promise could somehow water down the fire from china’s anger internet users, but who can give us a promise that the government is not saying one thing and doing another.
Li said that someone has politicalized the software, and the government’s goal is just to protest children from unhealthy information. We all care about our children, but the most important problem should be answered is what such “unhealthy” information is. Dose information that critic the government or the Party unhealthy? If the government uses Green Dam as a tool such as the infamous Great Fire Wall to “protest” their netizens from anti-government websites, for a long run, it is a tragic story for the nation.
